Score! An 8th Birthday Soccer Party

For Crew’s 8th birthday, we opted to burn allll the energy on a cold December evening with his friends – we rented some turf and voila, a soccer party!

Between a an extra-long Christmas break (due to a blizzard) and non-stop temps that didn’t allow us to get outside, this was the BEST way to spend an evening over break. The boys all played hard for an hour, reffed by Page.

The next hour was spent in a party room, playing soccer bingo for prizes (anything to build in some sit-still time ha!), pizza, donuts, presents, and eventually more make-shift soccer with many of the balloons. #boys

For favors, we sent each kiddo with a baggie of Airheads (Crew’s current fave), Fun Dip, and soccer ball fidget spinners.

A fun night with just our oldest, the most grateful kiddo. So happy to focus on just him and celebrate this awesome EIGHT YEAR OLD (who, bonus — is old enough to help with setup and tear down now ha!).

And just a little proof that boys – and this age right now – are the actual cutest.

A Puppy Paw-ty for Our 2 Year Old Gal

Maybe it’s that a lot of our friends are past the baby stage these past couple years. Maybe it’s that she’s a stay home, non-daycare kid. And maybe it’s that dang Cooties era we’ve been living in the past couple years since she was born. Whatever the reason…these pandemic babies just don’t have as many friends 🙂 So we invited….the dogs.

Greer loooooves herself some puppy dogs, so we ran with the theme. And while we were at it, I invited our many neighbor dogs to stop by for a pat and a treat…and to our delight, they showed UP!

She may have been a little overwhlemed to see so many at ONCE just outside her door, but she asked to go out for “more dogs” multiple times the rest of the day!

We handed out Bocce Bakery birthday cake treats to the dogs, along with various sizes of tennis balls as party favors.

Back inside, we had the table spread with some leftover turf (courtesy of her dad, and fitting giving it was also Masters Sunday!), some fire hydrant cups for her and her brother, Scooby snacks, and dog and bone and paw print sugar cookies.

I topped her chocolate cake with the sweetest pup candles that turned out to be worth every cent, because after she exploded with happiness when we sang and she blew them out…we proceed to do so again. Six more times, to her delight.

I found my paper through Rifle, but Mimi also had the cutest puppy party hat paper, and I’m kicking myself I didn’t get a picture of it. The puppy-themed gifts from friends and family were all so thoughtful — and could (likely will!) be a whole other post. She is already obsessed with a sweet little puppy suitcase and a miniature dog, pillow, and blanket that fit inside. And in a one of a kind gift, our neighbor dog, Eddie, who sends selfies to Greer on the regular, created a book just for her. I know — are you tearing up!?

Happy *SECOND* birthday to our girl. There’s no one on the planet we’d rather paw-ty with.

Easter Baskets 2022 (7yo boy; 2yo girl)

I may not get a lot blogged anymore, but Easter baskets are one thing I always love to stop and take the time to share! I find the best gift and gear recommendations from other parents sharing things they’ve found and loved, and I like to put some of that back out into the blogosphere. Bring on Spring and all the bunny business!

First things first…our egg hunt!

We definitely include candy but our kids are surprisingly particular, so we don’t do THAT much. The bunny usually leaves a note that tells us how many eggs we are looking for (so we don’t go crazy for hours searching for eggs that don’t exist!) and it usually just happens to mention which colors are for which kiddo. 😉 Our almost 2yo girl eggs will be filled with these magnetic letters and these light up rings along with some playdoh and bunny grahams. Our 7yo boy eggs will contain these waterproof soccer stickers to cover his water bottles, notebooks, iPad case, etc. and these punch balloons along with some favorite treats.

Greer’s Basket (age 2):

Our dog-obsessed gal is getting a puffy pet store sticker book (the puffy stickers are easy for little hands to handle in our experience) and this Learning Resources Puppy Sorting Toy; some Little Sleepies Spring pajamas (print no longer available); the Usborne Little Children’s Sticker Book; a monogrammed hat from Rey to Z; some WikkiStix; a Frozen projector light (WalMart – not linkable) and some Target dollar spot goodies.

Crew’s Basket (age 7):

Always curious about what WE did as kids, I thought it would be fun to add this Tamagotchi; a magnetic word guessing game (major Wheel of Fortune vibes); a couple pairs of new sleep shorts for Spring; a monogrammed hat from Rey to Z; Kinetic Sand surprise; WiikiStix; a Looper marble spinner (I grabbed the Hoop version), a Who Would Win title (this series is a hit with him right now) and an assortment of snacks and sweets.

Counting down the days over here to Easter, Spring, our gal’s second(!) birthday, and allll the warm weather!

Turning 7 is Magic

It was simply *magical* to get to throw a birthday party this year after endless months of no gatherings. You opted for SkyZone so my options to decorate were pretty limited on site…so we decorated at home for cake (donut) cutting with Papa and Mimi!

Favorite memory: you performing a magic trick for your audience of buddies. Happy SEVEN!!!

OMGreer She’s One Whole Year!

There was no big blowout first birthday party, but even better — we celebrated at home the four of us, and then with Papa and Mimi the following weekend. The theme was clementines and oranges and the puns ran rampant 🙂 Orange you cute?! Our CUTIE is one! Oh My Darlin’…we could just SQUEEZE you! 🙂

I made your vanilla cake and added some orange ombre to the vanilla frosting, topping it with sweet little felt orange slice toppers and a name banner I made.

Even with a small gathering, we hung allllll the balloons in pinks and oranges, and strung up your monthly flower photos for a total of twelve. Thanks to Mimi, you had the most perfect orange jammies to start your party morning in!

We made it into a double celebration of Greer + Papa, so his favorite, carrot cake, appropriately fit the color scheme as well!

You LOVED being sung to, and were especially animated about your sparkler candle. You dug into your cupcake and left very little for cleanup! 🙂

Happy first birthday to our Greer Girl! We can’t wait to see what’s in store for you this next trip around the sun!

Easter Baskets 2021 (6yo boy / 1yo girl)

I may not be blogging regularly this year, but I was NOT going to miss sharing our baskets! Playing bunny is an absolute favorite thing about parenting for me, and while Greer was technically born about 45 minutes before Easter last year, and she DID have a basket (see them here!) I am more or less considering this her first actual Easter.

I stole these gold baskets from our office for the second year in a row and attached their wooden name plaques (purchased here) for the occasion. The large plastic bunnies and small carrot eggs came from the dollar store a couple years ago, and I added their monograms to them with my Cricut.

Starting with 6 year old Crew’s basket… this kid loves his sugar, but is very picky about it, so some made its way into his basket, but I focused more on activities (lately, reading is a big one!) and some instant gratification stuff to DO right away. (Linking what I can – some may be affiliate links.)

Greer is about to turn ONE and while I still have a handful of baby and toddler toys to pass down, she already has her own set of interests and always needs clothes 🙂 Links below!

As for our egg hunt, we are doing a light up egg hunt (knowingly set up by Mom and Dad!) on Saturday night, filled with candy. The Sunday morning bunny eggs also have some treats inside, along with these finger puppets in Greer’s eggs and these desert animals in Crew’s (inspired by our upcoming Arizona vacation). Happy basket planning!!!

Level 6: A (pandemic) Mario Birthday

Like with everything else this past year, plans pivoted and we got creative. There were no parties, but Papa and Mimi as always brought the fun, and I tried to make it feel as “party” as I could despite the quiet and lack of chaos.

We did a full spread of treats and Mario paraphernalia. I even leaned in to all the branded character stuff this year because WHY NOT — this was the year to do it. Banners, door covers, it all went up in a crazy attempt to make it feel so over the top we’d forget this wasn’t normal.

I made your favorite sugar cookies to look like the stars from the game and used the Cricut to DIY some signage and a cake topper to round out the theme.

We had a tower of krispy kremes in lieu of a cake. In place of friends and party games, I set up gold coin boxes with dollar bills and coins inside all over the house to find like a sort of egg hunt – for one. 🙂

Of course, there was a lot of Mario Kart played with the guys and you got a major kick out of blindfolding us all to play pin the mustache on Luigi.

Looking back, it’s actually one of my favorite birthdays of yours. It was slower, but selfishly that meant I could soak it up more, there was less to prepare and it came together so easily, and you enjoyed it as much as any other birthday.

No matter what’s going on in the world, celebrating you is always easy. Cheers to Level SIX!

Trash Bash Garbage Truck Party

This past weekend, we celebrated this guy. <3

The theme, of course, was “Trash Bash” and featured a lot of garbage trucks and trash — a tall order for making things “cute” and “appetizing” ha! The details had to be rather mobile this year, as we rented some space as opposed to hosting in our home. This definitely limited set-up time, and the chance to get more than some quick snapshots, but it was a TOTAL win to not have to clean our home (before AND after!) and having the indoor playspace all to ourselves was the perfect way for the kiddos to burn off some energy (especially after we’ve had days on end of temps around zero!). It was a team effort (thanks Mom and Dad for all the help!) and of course Page pulled out some tricks to make my hair-brained ideas become a reality, such as whipping up a 2×4 frame to keep my photo prop truck standing.

As always, I save the pics with the kiddos just for our friends rather than share them here on the blog, but know that I DID to my heart’s delight get a shot of three cutie boys smiling at me through the window of this truck painted on — what else — an Amazon box. The road was a cheap black wedding runner and I stuck pieces of yellow duck tape down the center.

I set a kid’s table with reusable plates from Target that went home with each kiddo. I’ll link all supplies below, but these garbage truck cups from Etsy were a huge hit with Crew!

The idea was to keep it “trashy” right? So crumpled newspaper, tissue paper, and balloons made a wonky garland across the table, and silver tablecloths and little metal pails everywhere added to the “trash can” vibe.

I pulled the 3-foot print of Crew and “his” truck off his bedroom wall to add some last-minute backdrop (again — quick setup time so it had to be easy!) and we set up the food…

My favorite part is always naming the food and making the signage 😉

(More duck tape…this time ripped and wrapped around the bottled water!)

The babies went home with applesauce pouches (green, of course!) and the big kids got trash cans with candy, silly straws, and jars of slime.

At the last minute, I couldn’t resist adding more candy. Worms and bottles both seemed gross and trashy — and okay, those wax bottle candies actually ARE kind of gross — but both were a big hit with this crowd!

We kept it simple with pizza and after debating having the kids MAKE slime as a party activity, I vetoed in favor of just letting them wear themselves out in the playspace. Mission accomplished!

While he’s ready for both some present and spotlight detox after the Christmas-Birthday one-two punch, Crew truly enjoyed his party and all the fun surrounding his birthday in general, talking about each friend and activity all weekend long.

Happy birthday to our favorite THREE year old!
